Step 3 of 7 · Your content

Uploading your content and building your framework

Your content is what every program teaches from. This walkthrough covers uploading documents, video and YouTube, then turning your library into a framework you approve.

15 minute video · Processing time depends on how much you upload

Step by step

The five steps to your first program

After setup you land in your Content Library. The Getting started bar at the top tracks five steps, and this tutorial series follows them in order:

  • Upload content: documents, video, audio, images and YouTube links.
  • Build questionnaire: the intake questions that personalize every program.
  • Generate demo program: see a full program built for a sample client.
  • Set pricing and share: choose your price and get your link.
  • Build and publish profile: your public page and marketplace listing.

Upload a document

Drag a file into the upload area or click to browse. Documents such as PDF, Word and text files work, as do video, audio and images.

Before anything uploads, you confirm the content is yours: you own the copyright or hold a written license, you understand unauthorized uploads can lead to suspension, and you know Experly responds to DMCA takedown requests. Then click Continue upload.

Large files take a few minutes. A 300 page book took about three minutes to upload and catalog in the video. You can leave the page while it works.

Set the backbone and check the insights

Once a file is processed, Experly gives it a title, a description and keywords. Click the pencil to edit any of them.

The backbone slider (1 to 10) tells Experly how central a file is to your teaching. Give your core material, like your book or signature course, a 10. Give supporting pieces a 6 or 7 so they add to your programs without taking them over.

Click View insights to see how the file was broken into teachable sections. The page numbers there will not match your printed book. They are the sections Experly works from.

What the insights view shows

Insights lists the sections, topics and tags pulled from your file. If something important is missing here, it will be missing from your programs too, so this is a good place to check before you build.

Analyze your content

Click Analyze and build, then Analyze content. Experly reads your whole library and works out how many distinct lessons it can support without repeating itself or thinning out your ideas.

This usually takes a few minutes and can take up to 15 on a large library. You can walk away and come back.

Tip

Upload everything you plan to use before you analyze. The Free plan includes two content analysis runs and two framework runs, so one full pass is the efficient way to do it.

Read your framework units and choose a lesson plan

The result is a count of framework units: individual, teachable pieces of your material. In the video, one book produced 136 units, more than enough for the largest plan of 14 sections with 3 lessons (42 lessons).

Pick the lesson plan shape that fits. Experly only offers shapes your library can actually fill.

If your library is short of the plan you want, you can upload more and re-run the analysis. On Pro and Elite, Knowledge Gap Fill can also find where your library is thin and help you fill those gaps.

Lesson plan options

Each card is a shape your library supports, for example 14 sections × 3 lessons or 10 sections × 3 lessons. Choose one and continue.

Create your framework

Click Create framework. Experly catalogs your library, organizes the units into a learning arc and drafts section titles and summaries. It often takes about five minutes and can take up to 20. You can refresh or leave, and it will be waiting for you.

Scroll through the result. Each section shows its title, what the learner gets out of it, its core ideas and which parts of your library it draws from. This framework is what keeps every program in your voice.

Upload a video

Back in the Content Library, click Upload and choose a video file. Adding a title and description is optional. Leave them blank and Experly writes them for you.

Confirm the copyright prompt and the upload starts. Big files take longer. The hour long podcast in the video was just under 800 MB. Experly transcribes every word so your spoken teaching can be used in programs, not just the video itself.

Split a long video into lessons

When the video is ready, set its backbone, then click Segment video. Experly splits it by topic into lesson sized clips, each with its own title and keywords.

Only approved clips are used in programs. You will see a reminder to review timing and titles before approving.

Trim and approve clips

Click any clip to open the trimmer. Drag the green start and end handles on the timeline, press play to check, then click Save trim.

The automatic cuts are close, but we recommend checking each clip you plan to use. When you are happy, approve clips one by one or click Approve all on the Videos tab.

Add a YouTube video

Open the YouTube tab, paste the link to one of your videos, set the backbone and click Add video. Confirm the copyright prompt as usual.

Experly transcribes it so the teaching becomes part of your library. YouTube videos play in full inside a lesson. They are not split into clips, so upload the original file if you want it cut into lessons.

Re-run the analysis after adding content

New uploads are not in your framework until you include them. Go back to the framework page and click Re-run on the analysis. In the video, adding one podcast and one YouTube video took the library from 136 to 147 framework units, and the new video material was woven into existing sections.

If you already know you have enough material, you can skip the re-run and go straight to Rebuild framework.

Rebuild and approve your framework

Click Rebuild framework to fold the new material in. At the bottom of the framework you can see every unit, what it covers and where it came from, such as a book section or a video clip.

When you are happy, click Approve framework, then Go to programs. The next step is your questionnaire.

Good to know

  • Upload all your material first, then analyze once. It saves your runs.
  • Give your core material a backbone of 10 and supporting pieces a 6 or 7.
  • Only approved video clips are used in programs.
  • YouTube videos play in full. Upload the original file to split it into clips.
  • The Free plan includes 5 GB of storage and files up to 1 GB each.

0:00The five getting started steps

Once you have completed your onboarding, you'll be taken to the content upload page. This is the first step in five toward building your programs for your clients to access. As you can see here, we've got a get started section of zero five steps complete with first uploading content, second building your questionnaire, then generating a demo program to test out the system and make sure you're happy and satisfied with your programs. Then you set the pricing and you get a link that you could share to your clients. Finally, if you decide to publish your profile in the marketplace for other clients to access your content, you can fill out this step. It also builds out a profile that will be

0:39Upload a document

shown on your individual profile page. Okay, so let's start out here by uploading content. I'm going to upload. I'm going to upload my book, Strategic Instinct. It's a PDF. Just going to double click it. Before you can upload any content, you have to go through the copyright approval step where you check and approve that you actually own all this copyright and that this is your content and you have the permission to upload it. If you end up uploading content that is not your own and it's discovered by our platform, then you could potentially be banned from Experly. So please only upload content you have permission to. Once you're ready, hit continue upload and you can see the document is now uploading. Now, depending on the size of your document, how big it is, like for example, this book is 300 pages. So it's going to take some time to upload, probably five or so minutes. And then once it's uploaded, it's going to go through and segment it so that it's easy for it to parse and to create into programs. And right now we're just going to let this upload and I'll fast forward to it being completed so we can move on to the next step. So that took about

1:39Backbone and insights

three minutes to upload and catalog the book. You could see it created the title here and also created a description for you. You could also click the pencil and edit the description if you want to. One of the things I haven't talked about yet is the backbone. This is a lever that you can move up and down depending on how prominent you want your content to be. So because this is my main source of content, I'm giving it a 10 backbone. This is because I want the system to prioritize this over any other content that is uploaded. So now if I upload a short form video, I might give that a backbone of a seven or a six because I don't want it to overpower the content my book is representing. You can also see that it has created keywords and the topic is intuitive business strategy. If you click insights, that is going to show the content that was uploaded. And so you'll see the entire book. There's a table of contents. It shows like there's a hundred, one of 38 pages. These pages are not consistent with the pages that are on the actual book itself, but it's going to show all the content and how it's broken up into different sections. And that's how the system is able to go through and grab content. You're not going to see the entire book here. You're just going to see the actual content that it uses to help sort it out

2:53Analyze your content

for you. That's the only content I'm going to upload at this stage, because I just want to demonstrate the next stage to show you what happens when you have one book that you've uploaded. So what we're going to do here is going to click analyze and build. So once you've uploaded your content, you want to create a framework around the content that allows the platform to understand your content and sort it in a way that is comprehensive and understandable to the client and use that framework in order for the questionnaire that the client fills out to be able to properly gather information from your content and create a custom program for that client specific to their goals and initiative. So you're going to click analyze and build. And that's going to take you to the content framework page. So the first thing we're going to do is we're going to analyze the content. So this is going to analyze your content and decide how many modules or units we can create with your content to serve your audience base without diluting it or being repetitive. And so depending on how much content you've uploaded, this is going to be very different. So we're going to click analyze content here. Now this could take up to 10-15 minutes, but most times it's much shorter than that. Right now it's just going through what we've uploaded and it's deciding what is there, what is not there, what might need to be improved, what might need to be

4:15Framework units and plan limits

added. Okay great. That took about four or five minutes I guess to process and now you can see from the content it was able to find 136 framework units. That means segments that are individualized that it can create units of modules from. So with my one book that I uploaded I am fully capable of creating a program that has all the units that I want involved. You could still, if you're not happy with that, you could go down and you can change it to less or more depending on what you had chosen in the first place. But I'm going to stick with the 14 sections and three lessons. So now with your free membership to Experly you can create two content analyses. So meaning that if you were unsatisfied with the amount of framework units that were created, you didn't have enough content, you could then go back to your content library, upload more content, come back here, rerun the analysis and then move on from there. You could do that twice with the free version. If you want to do more than you could upgrade to a paid version. Also if you're unsatisfied with what you've uploaded, the content you've uploaded or you want to fill in the gaps, there's a segment we have called knowledge gap fill where it will go and analyze your content and decide where you're missing out on content that could help fill in the gaps. This is a pro feature part of our membership base. The pro membership starts at $39.99 and the elite membership starts at $99.99. If you wanted to upgrade to that you'd click here and compare the plans but we'll leave this for now. I'll come back to it later. So now that you've

5:43Create your framework

successfully done your content analysis you can create your framework. We're just going to click create framework. This could take up to 15-20 minutes. A lot of times it's much shorter than that but I'm just warning you so you can walk away from the computer and come back. You can even refresh the screen and come back. It won't go away and it'll tell you when it's complete. Okay that was pretty fast. It took about five minutes to create the framework. If you scroll down now you'll see your program framework and you'll see how it broke it down into sections. So for my book we've got shifting perspective and aligning actions with purpose. The global leaders expanded influence. The relentless drive for success and so on. So it's broken down my book into what looks like 136 different sections and then it will use this content to help create your programs and make sure your programs remain in your voice. Either rebuild the framework. Like I said before you we have one of two frameworks you could do in your free membership or approve it. Once you approve the framework the next step is to go

6:45Upload a video

on and create a questionnaire for your client but I don't want to do that yet. I want to show you what it's like to upload video content. So we're going to go back to the content library and there's your strategic instant content there. So even after you've built out your framework you still go back and add content you just have to recreate your framework afterwards. So because of free membership it only has two builds you should try to upload all of your content at once before you go and create the framework. So I'm going to click upload and I'm going to upload this podcast I have it's just over an hour long of video. You could put a title here you could description if you don't put a title or description it will fill it in automatically so I just like to leave it blank and then click upload video. Again you're going to get the warning make sure this content is owned by you that you have the right to use this content and then continue the upload. And just like with the document that we uploaded earlier you're going to watch this document process. This is a large file it's almost one gigabyte in size it's 798 megabytes so it might take a bit longer. With the free plan you have up to five gigabytes of memory which is plenty of memory to upload a number of hour long videos as well as as much documents as you want to. So you should be able to create a pretty comprehensive program with video and documents without having to upgrade your plan. It's breaking this video into chunks it's analyzing the content because it's going to suggest edits to edit the hour long video into small components that could be used within the program in different sections. It will go in and transcribe the verbatim dialogue that is in that video and it will use that dialogue as part of your course curriculum when it builds out the programs. Again you don't need to sit in front of the computer while this process is you can walk away and come back your information won't be lost you'll be there when you return. And there we go okay it just

8:23Split a video into lessons

finished uploading. Now as you can see it created a title called embracing change and growth and it also created a description for the podcast. It shows the length of the podcast the format and the size of the file and also some keywords that were included in the podcast. Okay so you have the full video here you can click it and you can play it and fast forward through and see the content. Once the video is uploaded then you can adjust the backbone so I'm going to put it at an 8 here. So the next step is to segment the video if you want to segment so we're going to click segment video and now it's going to process the video and break it down into segments for you. Now it's doing this based on the topics that are discussed within the video and it's not going to be exact but it's going to be close and what it does is allow you to open up the segmented videos and edit them within a certain range to make them more cohesive if you're not happy with how they've been edited by the system. But it's pretty close and it also saves you a lot of time it creates a title for each video it creates keywords and we get a pop-up. Approve segments for your programs you upload was split into lesson-sized clips review the timing and titles and approve the ones you want to see. Unapproved segments are not included in your generated programs when you're satisfied with the 10 segments approve them individually or use approve on the videos tab. You can keep refining segments anytime just make sure the ones you want in the programs are approved before you generate. Okay so let's just click

9:51Trim and approve clips

one of them like shifting focus from financial goals. I'm going to click this now this is the segmented video from what we were just looking at and if we click play it's going to start where it's segmented from. You can just grab this and move the timeline and switch the time frame of where it starts and fiddle around with it. So there we go I'm happy with that clip so I'm going to click save trim and then now that it's saved I can click out of there and close the video and everything's there. So it created 10 videos for me here you can go through and edit everyone individually or you could leave it and trust that it's done its job although I don't recommend that. I think you should go through and edit everyone individually if you're going to include them in the programs but for now all I'm going to do is I'm going to click approve all so I'm going to approve them all and hit okay and it's just approving and all videos have now been approved. Okay so now we've got our document loaded up we've got one long-form

10:53Add a YouTube video

video broken and down into 10 segments. I'm going to show you how to upload a YouTube video as well so if you have a YouTube channel this is great because then you can go in and grab one of your YouTube videos. The easy way to do that is just to go to YouTube and grab the actual link of your video so I'm going to do that. I have a link here from YouTube we have a five-minute video I did on building an app with AI and I'm just going to click and add video again as always it's asking for the copyright it's got to make sure that you own the rights to this video or the content that you're uploading and this is going to treat the YouTube video just like a video that you upload from your files it'll take a few minutes to go through it it's going to transcribe it just like it does your other video content but it's not going to break it down like it does the upload of videos you have to upload an original video from your computer for it to be broken down into segments otherwise the YouTube video will just play as it is so whatever you upload from YouTube it's getting the full content it's not breaking it down. Okay there we go the video uploaded we can view the insights the insights is pretty much just the transcript from the video right here on the right side so everything seems to have transcribed fine and it's all set to go so we've done documents videos YouTube and you could also upload images as well so now that we have uploaded a YouTube video a regular video and our documents we can go back to review the

12:17Re-run the analysis

framework and we don't need to reanalyze the content because we know that we have enough content so you could if you want to rerun it but you don't have to you can go straight to rebuilding the framework so right now it's using 136 framework units for the framework I'm going to rerun it anyways just to show you what happens when you rerun the content analysis this should take somewhere around five to ten minutes and when it's done it should include the video content that we just added to our uploads so the YouTube video and the podcast video that got split into 10 segments it's complete we have 147 frameworks now instead of 136 so it added 11 you can see the uploaded video was included and it cut it down into actually 16 sections in the framework so that just means that it's added the video to different sections some of those sections already had document content so it's complementing the document content and then we have the YouTube video that got added to two sections as well okay so now we're going to scroll down and we're going to rebuild the framework now this could take somewhere from 10 to 15 minutes if not more depending on the amount of content and then once the framework's done we could scroll down and make sure that the 147 units are part of it and then we'll approve that framework and then that framework is used to create your programs like I said before you can walk away from the

13:38Rebuild and approve the framework

computer while you're processing your framework okay there we go the framework is done so shows 147 framework units we'll scroll down here and we'll see the framework that was built and you can see that if we scroll to the very bottom it has created 147 units it gives a title to each unit it gives a description of each unit tells where that unit came from book section book section three book sections video clips so we've got four book sections three book sections video clip okay so now that this is done we've gone through and we're okay with it we can either rebuild it if you still have credits left or we approve the framework with the free version you get two rebuilds with the framework or two rebuilds with the content analysis that should be enough to get you going you shouldn't even need to if you load up all your content at once you only need to do this once so we're going to approve the framework and then we can go to programs the next step in creating your programs is creating the questionnaire the whole idea of the questionnaire is to individualize your programs specifically for each client so you're going to build a questionnaire here which each of your clients will fill out and based on their specific answers it will use that questionnaire as a guide to hone your content to create a specific program for that specific client so that every program that is created is individualized for each client
